Does your Missouri collision operation need a rebuilder or body-shop license?

Missouri requires a Department of Revenue license to conduct business as a rebuilder or body shop when rebuilding and repairing four or more wrecked or dismantled vehicles in a calendar year, subject to the statutory franchised-dealer exception. The Department issues separate licenses for the business types covered by §301.218.

Quick check

If you rebuild or repair four or more wrecked or dismantled vehicles in a calendar year, verify the required Missouri rebuilder/body-shop license is in place.

When this applies

Your Missouri business rebuilds or repairs wrecked or dismantled motor vehicles and may reach four or more such vehicles in a calendar year.

Count the wrecked or dismantled vehicles your operation rebuilds or repairs during the calendar year. If the business reaches the statutory threshold, confirm the appropriate Missouri Department of Revenue rebuilder/body-shop license is active before continuing that business activity.
