Does your Washington tire storage exceed permitting limits?

Washington Ecology generally requires a local solid-waste permit to store more than 800 waste automobile tires, or equivalent eight tons, when each tire weighs less than 500 pounds; separate thresholds apply to large equipment tires. A state storage license can also be required when local permitting does not fully meet WAC 173-350-350. Small ordinary shop inventories often fall below these specific licensing thresholds.

Quick check

Compare maximum waste-tire quantities with Washington's 800-tire threshold and relevant exemptions.

When this applies

Your Washington business stores substantial numbers of waste tires on-site or operates a tire storage facility.

Estimate your maximum tire inventory and weights, compare against Ecology's threshold and container exemptions, check local health department permit requirements, and determine whether a separate state license or reporting is needed.
