Does your Texas shop charge the correct $2 or $3 battery fee?

Texas imposes a battery sales fee of $3 for batteries rated 12 volts or more and $2 below 12 volts. Certain resale, government, small sealed, and out-of-state shipments are exempt. Sellers must separately state the fee; it is not subject to sales tax. Texas requires sellers responsible for collection to register a battery-fee account and report the fee.

Quick check

Check the battery-voltage fee, separately stated invoice, exemption evidence, and state returns.

When this applies

Your Texas shop, tire retailer, or dealership sells qualifying new or used lead-acid batteries directly at retail.

Check taxable battery types and invoice lines, confirm the Texas battery sales fee account, distinguish exempt resale/warranty cases, and file Form 66-102 or Webfile returns on the assigned reporting cadence.
