Do your Rhode Island body-shop technicians meet the new ADAS certification category?

Rhode Island's effective October 29, 2026 amendment to 230-RICR-30-05-2 added ADAS as the eighth technician-certification area. Sections 2.5 and 2.12 describe requirements and certification ratios by license class. Limited Heavy Truck and Equipment, and Limited Paint, Restoration and Customization licenses are not required to hold the ADAS category under the narrow exemptions, although their other certification categories still apply. I-CAR Gold Class recognition is recognized as an alternative for certain Class A/Class B requirements.

Quick check

Identify your DBR license class; check ADAS against the eight-category certification/ratio rules, current course approvals and limited-license exemptions.

When this applies

Your Rhode Island collision/body-repair business operates under a motor-vehicle body repair license with technicians performing work covered by the Class A, Class B or other applicable license-certification rules.

Verify the body-shop license class, map technicians' certification records to the eight categories where required, check Class B certification ratios and whether an express limited-license exemption applies, and retain the certificates for DBR inspection or renewal.
