Are your Oregon estimates and separate repair authorizations documented correctly?

Oregon vehicle repair shops must prepare an estimate before beginning covered work. If an estimate shows that evaluation, disassembly, repair, maintenance, or parts work will cost more than $200, the shop must obtain separate authorization before taking the covered action. A separate authorization is also required when changing the work from the estimate increases cost by more than 10% or more than $200, whichever amount is less. Required documents must be kept for at least one year.

Quick check

Verify every covered job has an estimate before work, actions over $200 are separately authorized, and changes increasing cost by more than 10% or $200, whichever is less, are re-authorized.

When this applies

Your Oregon business is a vehicle repair shop under ORS 646A.480-646A.495 and works on personal, family, or household motor vehicles; dedicated body and frame repair shops are excluded from this specific law.

Confirm an estimate is prepared before covered work, separately authorize actions over the $200 threshold, re-authorize cost-increasing changes above the 10%/$200 rule, document telephone/electronic approvals as the statute requires, and retain the required documents for at least one year.
