Could a catalytic-converter transaction put your Ohio repair registration at risk?

Effective October 6, 2026, R.C. 4775.09 requires the Motor Vehicle Repair Board to refuse to issue or renew, and to revoke, a registration when the registrant is convicted of or pleads guilty to specified offenses involving unlawful purchases of used detached catalytic converters, catalytic-converter theft, or receiving stolen catalytic converters.

Quick check

Confirm staff follow lawful catalytic-converter sourcing procedures and understand that specified converter-purchase, theft, or stolen-property convictions can now trigger registration denial, nonrenewal, or revocation.

Review cadenceOngoing; re-check if Ohio amends R.C. 4775.09 or the underlying catalytic-converter offenses.
When this applies

Your Ohio business is registered under Chapter 4775 as a motor vehicle collision repair operator or motor vehicle window tint installation facility, especially if the business acquires or handles used detached catalytic converters.

Review catalytic-converter sourcing and intake controls, train staff not to make prohibited used-converter purchases, retain appropriate transaction documentation, and escalate any suspected stolen-property issue because specified convictions can now affect the shop's repair registration.
