Nevada added body-shop storage-rate limits and disclosure rules

Nevada SB 170 (Chapter 370), effective July 1, 2013, created detailed rules for body-shop vehicle storage. It limits when storage may be charged, treats rates up to 1.5 times the prevailing geographic rate as reasonable absent approved relief, requires DMV storage-rate survey data, adds storage disclosures to repair estimates and creates notice duties for certain vehicles towed to a body shop.

What to check

Nevada body shops that charge storage should compare rates with current DMV prevailing-rate data, disclose storage terms on estimates when required, document tow-in notices and avoid billing storage during prohibited periods.
