Rhode Island adds ADAS certification for covered auto body technicians on October 29

Rhode Island filed an amendment to 230-RICR-30-05-2 effective October 29, 2026. The amendment defines ADAS, adds ADAS technician certification, and expands covered technician certification from seven to eight categories. Limited Heavy Truck and Limited Paint, Restoration, and Customization licenses are excluded from the ADAS requirement.

Before October 29, Rhode Island body and collision shops should review their license class and technician credentials against amended sections 2.5 through 2.12, plan ADAS training and certification where applicable, and retain certification evidence. Do not treat this requirement as already effective.
