California's new vehicle-glass law adds ADAS disclosures, calibration notices, and insured-repair procedures

California SB 988 (Chapter 666, signed September 27, 2026) establishes the Motor Vehicle Glass Act. Beginning in 2027, businesses primarily engaged in automotive glass replacement face additional pre-service ADAS and calibration disclosures, written calibration outcome notices, itemized invoices/receipts, and special claim-number, estimate, and authorization conditions for first-party insured repairs. Certain assignment-of-benefits contracts entered on or after January 1, 2027 are void.

What to check

If your California operation is primarily an automotive glass replacement business, review SB 988 before January 1, 2027. Update windshield intake and ADAS-calibration notices, documentation of results, invoices, and insured-claim intake/authorization. Confirm applicability to your specific business; this is not a blanket requirement for all collision shops.
